FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Below are answers to common questions about our Consultation Clinics. If you need further information or aren’t sure if this service is the right fit for you, feel free to reach out.
What is the Consultation Clinic?
This is a 50-60 minute, one-on-one online consultation with Senior Paediatric Occupational Therapist Kevin Prior (CORU registered), hosted on Zoom.
Who is this consultation suitable for?
The service is designed for parents/guardians of children aged 12 months to 18 years who need guidance on specific concerns.
Can my child attend the consultation?
No, this is a parent-only consultation. It is not a direct therapy session for a child, allowing Kevin to focus on providing tailored advice.
Can I discuss more than one child in the session?
To ensure enough time is dedicated to each child’s needs, each consultation is for one child only. If you need to discuss multiple children, separate bookings are required.
What topics can be discussed?
You can ask questions and seek advice on areas such as sensory processing, self-regulation, self-care, motor skills, attention and concentration, handwriting, school or play-related activities, and diagnoses like Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, DCD/Dyspraxia, and developmental delays. Navigating services etc
Will I receive a written report after the consultation?
This consultation is designed as a conversation-based session rather than a formal assessment, so a written report is not provided. However, a summary of key strategies and recommendations is provided.
What happens after I book?
Once you book, you’ll receive an online questionnaire via email. This must be completed and returned by 9pm the day before your consultation.
Can I claim this consultation through my health insurance?
A receipt can be provided for you to submit to your health insurance if it is covered under your plan.
What if I need to reschedule or cancel my appointment?
Please see our cancellation policy for more information.
Can I record the consultation?
Yes, if you'd like to record the consultation for your reference, just let us know in advance, and we’ll be happy to accommodate.
Can I book follow-up sessions?
We will only recommend follow-up sessions if the Occupational Therapist feels they are necessary based on your child’s needs, or if you feel like you need additional support. Current research strongly supports parental coaching models the most effective way to create lasting change, meaning you don’t need to commit to long, costly blocks of therapy. Instead, our goal is to equip you with the tools and strategies you need to support your child confidently in everyday life.
Can I book 1:1 in-person support following this appointment?
We don’t always recommend in-person 1:1 therapy, as current research strongly supports a parental coaching model for the most effective outcomes. This approach empowers you with the tools and strategies needed to support your child daily, rather than relying on long, expensive blocks of therapy. However, if after your consultation it’s determined that in-person support is essential, we can discuss suitable options.
How do I know if this service is right for me?
If you're unsure whether this consultation is the right fit, feel free to contact us at hello@everydayotireland.com, and we’ll be happy to help.
Can a school book this service?
Absolutely, a school can book a consultation. However, if discussing a specific child, we must first speak with the child’s parents to confirm they have provided consent.
How could a school use this service?
Schools can use this consultation service to seek guidance on supporting students in areas such as sensory needs, motor skills, handwriting, attention and concentration, self-regulation, and classroom accommodations. The session can be used to provide teachers and support staff with strategies to implement in the school setting.
